Label: AJR Records

Based in the U.K., JOANovARC have been playing at various music festivals and clubs throughout Europe to promote their new EP, Beneath the Sky. In their lyrics, they write about real world / contemporary issues rather than the usual vapid pop subject matter. JOANovARC are getting airplay on assorted indie music stations with their sound that is a mixture of classic rock with alternative music sensibilities.

The line up:

Sam Walker – Lead Vocals / Bass / Rhythm Guitar
Shelley Walker – Lead Guitar / Backing Vocals
Laura Ozholl – Vocals / Rhythm Guitar / Bass
Debbie Wildish – Drums

1. Peace of Mind, time … 5:01
Inspirational track that salutes the sacrifice of those who serve. A great number for a halftime show.

2. Sisters, time … 3:57
An arena rock type tune with a somber touch. Lyrics about loss and remembrance.

3. Seeds of Summer, time … 6:25
Too long, but a more upbeat piece, nice guitar work towards the end. Has potential as a commercial soundtrack.

4. K. Fid, time … 3:31
A dark, bluesy riff on top of a tawdry tale of romance gone wrong.

5. Running Away, time … 3:14
Echo of Pat Benatar – We Belong on vocals and intro. Turns into a defiant anthem on its own.

The Takeaway:
RiceburnerFM recommends Beneath the Sky by JOANovARC.
It features smart storytelling lyrics and crystal clear vocals. A strong musical debut for this talented quartet.
